Enkidu has found his way out of Irkalla, the underworld, a place from which no one who enters ever returns, and he has amnesia.
He turns out to be autistic and becomes a person of interest to an order of ancient people and their descendants. They want to know if someone else has found her way out of the underworld, a type of dimension that the mind cannot fathom. Enkidu has a unique brain that allowed him to understand that dimension, and it barely got him out.
Enkidu is brought in by a man named Bill, who recognizes him. But they are eventually unable to contain Enkidu, who escapes to pursue a memory. This leads him to Rand, a mad man who serves the ancient ones and is a descendant of a long line of Sumerian priests.
Will Enkidu be able to cope with the modern world? Will he be able to regain his memories? And, most importantly, did Inanna, who is celebrated as the goddess of sex and love even as her role as the goddess of war is naively forgotten, also find her way out of the underworld?
