This is the story of Alex Grey: a smart, suspicious loner who has learned the only way to survive is not to trust anyone.

Alex has a lot to deal with - hunger, loneliness, an abusive home and, worst of all, highschool.

To make matters worse she lives on the infamous Montreal Island which, since the Diaspora, has become the most overcrowded ghetto on the whole North American continent. Carved into fiefdoms by crime lords and gangs, abandoned by the authorities and left to rot, ravaged by poverty and violence, anaesthetised by bio-engineered drugs. This is Detroit, Kowloon, and Jo'burg all rolled into one.

Alex's Rules of Survival
Rule One: Keep your distance (If you don't give people the opportunity they can't hurt you)
Rule Two: Reconnaissance (Asses whether the coast is clear)
Rule Three: Avoid Attention (Rule three is getting harder every day)
